How do you use the Jason Markk Repel? A step-by-step guide

To protect your sneakers against dirt and moisture, using Jason Markk Repel is an excellent choice. This manual will guide you through the steps to effectively treat your sneakers with this protection product.

Step 1: Preparation

Start with carefully cleaned and completely dry sneakers. A clean, dry surface is essential for the effectiveness of Jason Markk Repel. Any form of moisture or dirt can affect the adhesion of the protective layer, so take your time for this important preparation phase. Are your sneakers dirty? Then use the Jason Markk Premium Deep Cleaner and Jason Markk Ready to Use Foam as the first step.

Step 2: Applying the Jason Markk Repel

Now it's time to apply Jason Markk Repel. Shake the bottle well before use. Hold the spray bottle approximately 15 to 20 centimeters from the sneakers and spray the product evenly over the entire surface. Make sure you cover all parts of the sneakers for optimal protection.

Step 3: Wipe certain areas

Wipe the parts that are not absorbent. This way you prevent water stains. The parts of shoes that are often not absorbent are, for example, the midsoles, air bubbles, patent leather, and plastic parts.

Step 4: Drying

After applying the Repel, let the sneakers dry in a well-ventilated area for at least 24 hours. Avoid direct heat sources as these can affect the quality of the protective layer.

Step 5: Repeat for optimal protection

Repeat steps 2 to 4 again after at least 24 hours.

Tips for the Best Result

  • Test the products on a small, inconspicuous part of the sneaker.
  • Always perform a color fastness test first, especially on colored or unique materials.
  • The longer you leave Repel on while drying, the stronger the water-repellent effect will be.
  • We recommend at least 2 coats when applying Repel.
  • For materials such as knits and meshes, we recommend at least 3 coats.
  • Most leather sneakers do not immediately require a protective layer from Repel, because it has a protective finish to seal the material against dirt and stains.
  • Do not use Repel on untreated or vegetable tan leather as the material is not sealed and moisture will darken the material.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes! The products are made with safety as a top priority. The products are designed to work on all materials.

Yes, when used properly, all Jason Markk products are safe and highly effective on suede and/or nubuck.

Note : Due to the structure of suede, its open pores and its different qualities, it can be somewhat unpredictable. We recommend testing in an inconspicuous area first. Individual results may vary, use at your own risk.

Absolutely not. Repel is a green water-based product. It is colorless and odorless.

The material must be clean and dry before application. Holding the bottle upright about 6 to 8 inches from the shoe, spray evenly over the entire area of the shoe. Don't oversaturate. Use a cloth to blot and absorb excess product. Allow it to dry/cure completely for 24 hours or more. After the first coat has dried, repeat the steps and apply a second coat. Make sure shoes have dried completely before exposing them to liquid.

Tip : The longer you let Repel harden, the stronger the repellency.

Use Repel on absorbent materials such as suede, nubuck and canvas. Leather that has been sealed or polished (such as patent leather) is already essentially waterproof. If Repel has been accidentally applied to these types of materials, simply wipe it clean with a cloth before it dries.

Repel generally lasts 4-6 weeks. The lifespan depends on the amount of exposure to the elements. The best way to test the effectiveness of the Repel is to take a few drops of water and see how well the water beads and rolls off the shoe. If reapplication is necessary, we recommend cleaning your shoes with the Premium Shoe Cleaner, allowing to dry completely and reapplying Repel according to the directions on the bottle.
