Liquid Kicks Top Coats - Primer

Liquid Kicks Primer gives your paint the ultimate base! This primer chemically bonds to the surface, giving your paint the best foundation to adhere to! LK Primer is clear but has a slight milky cast, so apply it only to the areas you want to paint. It works with any paint you apply over it.

Preparation

Use a clean, lint-free microfiber cloth dampened with Essential Deglazer to clean only the leather surface you intend to paint. Don't overclean the surface. You should feel the surface change from smooth to tacky as you clean it. Once the feeling changes, it's sufficiently cleaned. Let the surface sit for 10 to 20 minutes to allow the solvents to escape. Don't force it to dry. Remove any dust or dirt with a clean, dry synthetic paintbrush.

Apply primer

LK Primer can be applied with a soft brush, but the best way to apply it is with an airbrush with a tip size between 0.2 mm and 0.7 mm and an air pressure of between 25 and 35 psi. Spray the primer directly onto the surface from a distance of 3 to 5 inches with an airbrush, or 4 to 8 inches with a spray gun. Apply in even coats, working from left to right and top to bottom, overlapping each previous stroke to create medium-wet coats. Allow the primer to dry completely before applying the next coat. You can use a hairdryer to force it dry, but be sure to let the surface cool completely before proceeding.

Processing time

Once the product is poured into an open-air container such as an airbrush cup or mixing cup, it begins curing. A test showed that in a 236ml airbrush cup at 21 degrees Celsius, the product was usable for two hours before performance was affected.

In a similar test in a 500ml cup, the product was usable for 6 hours. To extend shelf life, keep unused portions covered with a cap or lid. The shelf life of unopened bottles of LK Top Coat has been proven to be longer than 1 year under normal conditions.

Coverage

One 59ml bottle is sufficient for more than 15 pairs of leather shoes or one large leather car seat. Coverage on canvas depends on the type of canvas and its size.

Storage

Store between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius and away from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent oxidation. Prolonged exposure to temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius and below 0 degrees Celsius may result in reduced product performance. Keep the lid closed when not in use to prevent drying out.

Cleaning up

Clean all tools immediately with water, acetone, or Essential Deglazer. Cleaning dried topcoats requires harsh solvents such as MEK or volatile paint strippers. Remove all traces of finisher from the airbrush or spray gun immediately after use to prevent the product from drying in the airbrush and causing a hard-to-remove clog! Rinse until the cleaner no longer fogs the topcoat.
