Liquid Kicks Top Coats Technical Data Sheet
LK Intercoat is a water-based acrylic coating designed to block chemical reactions and bleeding between paint layers. Apply the intercoat layer just before applying details. Apply two coats of the intercoat layer builder before painting. The undercoat will be protected because the intercoat layer builder acts as a barrier. This allows you to paint worry-free. It's compatible with solvent-based paints, so this product can be used in many applications!
Preparation
All coats of paint under Intercoat MUST BE COMPLETELY DRY before applying Intercoat. Remove all dust before applying. This product is NOT to be used as a primer.
Application
Apply the Intercoat in two to three coats using an airbrush or a soft brush . Start with a light coat. Dry it quickly after application with a hairdryer until the surface is dry. DO NOT USE A HEAT GUN , as this can burn the Intercoat. Before applying the next coat, ensure the surface is cool to the touch.
Apply the second coat as a medium wet coat and then dry it quickly with a hairdryer. Applying a third coat is only recommended if you don't plan on adding more layers of paint or if you anticipate heavy erasing.
Application with stencils
Intercoat is also designed for extremely clean stenciling. Using Intercoat after applying a stencil will significantly reduce stencil problems such as lifting and bleeding.
- To use as a stencil blocker, apply stencils to a fully prepared and dried surface.
- Make sure the stencil is completely flat with no air bubbles and then apply two very light coats of Intercoat and let air dry for 10 minutes.
- Apply colors to stenciled areas and let dry.
- Remove the stencil and apply another thin layer of Intercoat to melt the paint edge, preventing any high edges from the tape.
Convert coatings
In some situations, paint needs to be stronger than it's designed to be. Certain inks have a binder that's too weak to use on flexible surfaces. To increase ink strength, add 1 to 3 drops of Intercoat to 10 drops of ink, mix, and spray. Compatible with all water-based paints.
Mixing prevention
The chemistry of the Intercoat layer builder allows it to dry quickly and forms a barrier between paints that would normally cause mixing. For example, light pink and white. Intercoat is non-reactive and will prevent most dyes and paints from corroding the subsequent coat. Two or three light coats are required.
Intercoat does not contain UV blockers and is not as flexible or scratch-resistant as our topcoats. It should not be used as a topcoat.
