How do I use the SneakersER paint pens? A step-by-step guide
How do I use the paint pens? Follow the method described below to make sure your midsoles are painted properly.
Step 1: Shake before use
Shake the paint pen well before use.
- If this is the first time you use the SneakersER Premium Midsole Paint Marker, press the tip of the marker onto a piece of cardboard a few times to make sure the paint reaches the tip.
- Tip: tape off your shoes before you start. That way the paint will not end up on unwanted spots. Masking tape works fine.
Step 2: Prep the midsoles
To make sure the paint adheres well, your midsoles need to be clean, dry, and free of dust. Prep the midsoles with one of our deglazers to first remove the old paint from your sneakers. This is delicate work, however, and can damage your rubber soles if used incorrectly. Use of this product is entirely at your own risk.
- Tip: If you do not want to use the deglazer, intensive scrubbing with the SneakersER Professional Cleaning Solution is enough to get started. We do still recommend using a deglazer.
Step 3: Painting
Apply a thin layer of paint with the Premium Midsole Paint Marker.
Then let the shoes dry so the paint can adhere properly. We recommend waiting one hour between layers.
- Apply multiple thin layers if needed. Repeat this step until you have the desired result.
- Tip: do not apply the paint too thickly in one go. That will lead to a less nice result.
- Tip: try to spread the paint evenly in long strokes. That gives fewer streaks than short movements.
Step 4: Add a protective coat
Let the shoes dry completely for at least 48 hours before use. To finish, we recommend sealing your midsoles with one of the finishers. Use the finisher as indicated on the product. This adds an extra layer of protection.
- Tip: the most chosen finisher for midsoles is the matte finisher.
- Tip: The Angelus brand 4-coat or Liquid Kicks finishers are the most recommended for midsoles.
General tips
- Do not treat the shoes in a dusty environment. That keeps the paint from staying nice and even on your midsoles.
- If this is the first time you use the SneakersER Premium Midsole Paint Marker, press the tip of the marker onto a piece of cardboard a few times to make sure the paint reaches the tip.
- Always try to do a full midsole in one go to avoid color differences. Think of it like painting a wall: as long as it is wet, it dries evenly.
- Read the instructions for each paint pen carefully. Not all of them are suitable for every material.
- Note that this is not a permanent fix. This paint will also look less nice after wearing.
- You can also do repaints with the paint pens on both the upper and the midsoles of your sneakers.
