Liquid Kicks Top Coats are leather top coats or finishers of the highest quality in the industry!
Liquid Kicks top coats are designed to protect your artwork on various surfaces, such as leather, vinyl, PVC, canvas, cotton and silk. The top coats are extremely scratch-resistant, UV-resistant, waterproof and chemical resistant. LK Top Coats give you the ability to send your custom leather, canvas and vinyl products into the world with the confidence that they won't peel, crack or fade and that they will always look good.
LK Top Coats are a high-performance water-based hybrid acrylic-polyurethane resin designed for use on leather and canvas. All products are manufactured in-house by LK Top Coats under very strict quality control.
Use a clean, lint-free microfiber cloth dampened with the Essential Deglazer to clean only the leather surface you intend to paint. Do not clean the surface excessively. You should feel the surface change from smooth to sticky as you clean it. Once the feeling changes, it has been cleaned sufficiently. Allow surface to rest for 10 to 20 minutes to allow solvents to escape. Do not force drying. Remove any dust or dirt with a clean, dry synthetic paintbrush.
Work in light layers until the color reaches the right tone. Let each layer dry before moving on to the next layer. Once all the color has been applied, let it dry thoroughly. This can of course be done by leaving it for 24 hours or by giving it a helping hand with a hairdryer or heat gun with a temperature of up to 175 degrees Celsius. Allow the surface to cool completely before applying the LK Top Coats.
LK Top Coats finishers can be applied with a brush in 2 thin coats, but the best way to apply it is with an airbrush with a tip size between 0.2mm – 0.7mm and with an air pressure between 25 psi – 35 psi.
Spray the top coat directly onto the surface at a distance of between 4 and 6 inches with an airbrush, or between 4 and 8 inches with a spray gun. Apply in even layers working from left to right and top to bottom while overlapping each previous line to create medium wet layers. Let the top coat dry before moving on to the next coat.
LK Top Coat finishers are best dried with a hairdryer or hot air gun at a temperature of up to 175 degrees Celsius.
Air drying takes 35 to 50 minutes, depending on ambient temperature and humidity. Drying with a hairdryer or heat gun should not exceed 10 minutes. LK Top Coats are ready to use after complete drying, but full chemical and scratch resistance is only achieved after 12 hours of curing at normal room temperature of 21 degrees Celsius.
Once the product is poured into an open-air container such as an airbrush cup or mixing cup, curing begins. A test showed that in a 236ml airbrush cup at 21 degrees Celsius the product was usable for 2 hours before performance was affected.
In a comparable test in a 500ml beaker, the product was usable for 6 hours. To extend shelf life, keep unused portions covered with a cap or lid. The shelf life of unopened bottles of LK Top Coat has been proven to be longer than 1 year under normal conditions.
One 59ml bottle is suitable for more than 15 pairs of leather shoes or 1 large leather car seat. Coverage on canvas depends on canvas type and size.
Shop between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius and away from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent oxidation. Prolonged exposure to temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius and below 0 degrees Celsius may result in reduced product performance. Keep the lid closed when not in use to prevent it from drying out.
Clean all tools immediately with water, acetone or the Essential Deglazer. Cleaning dried topcoats requires aggressive solvents such as MEK or volatile paint strippers. Remove all traces of the finisher from the airbrush or spray gun immediately after use to prevent the product from drying out in the airbrush and causing a blockage that is difficult to remove! Rinse until the cleaner no longer fogs up the top layer.
