How do I use SneakersER paint pens? A step-by-step guide
How do I use the paint pens? Follow the method described below to ensure your midsoles are painted correctly.
Step 1: Shake before use
Shake the paint pen well before use.
- If this is your first time using the SneakersER Premium Midsole Paint Marker, press the tip of the marker onto a piece of cardboard several times to ensure the paint settles into the tip.
- Tip: Tape off your shoes before you start. This will prevent the paint from getting in unwanted places. Masking tape works well.
Step 2: Prep the midsoles
To ensure proper paint adhesion, it's important to keep your midsoles clean, dry, and dust-free. Prepare the midsoles with one of our deglazers to remove the old paint from your sneakers. However, this is a delicate job and, if used incorrectly, can damage your rubber soles. Therefore, use this product entirely at your own risk.
- Tip: If you don't want to use a deglazer, a thorough scrub with the SneakersER Professional Cleaning Solution is enough to get started. However, we do recommend using a deglazer.
Step 3: Painting
Apply a thin layer of paint with the Premium Midsole Paint Marker.
Then let the shoes dry so the paint can adhere properly. We recommend waiting an hour between coats.
- Apply several thin coats if needed. Repeat this step until you achieve the desired result.
- Tip: Don't apply the paint too thickly at once. This will result in a less attractive result.
- Tip: Try to distribute the paint evenly using long strokes. This will create fewer streaks than short strokes.
Step 4: Another protective layer
Let the shoes dry completely for at least 48 hours before use. To finish, we recommend finishing your midsoles with one of our finishers. Use the finisher as directed on the product. This provides an extra layer of protection.
- Tip: The most popular finisher for midsoles is the matte finisher.
- Tip: The Angelus brand 4-coat or Liquid Kicks finishers are most recommended for midsoles.
General tips
- Don't treat your shoes in a dusty environment. This will prevent the paint from remaining evenly applied to your midsoles.
- If this is your first time using the SneakersER Premium Midsole Paint Marker, press the tip of the marker onto a piece of cardboard several times to ensure the paint settles into the tip.
- Always try to paint the entire midsole in one go to avoid color variations. Think of it like painting a wall: as long as it's wet, it dries evenly.
- Read the instructions for each paint pen carefully. Not all are suitable for all materials.
- Note that this isn't a permanent fix. This paint will also fade with use.
- You can also repaint both the upper and midsoles of your sneakers using paint pens.
